UAA Health Sciences Building
Summary
This project was completed by Livingston Slone, Inc., which merged with Nvision Architecture, Inc., in early 2020.
The University of Alaska Anchorage Health Sciences Building was designed to support integrated care instruction that brings together medical students, nurses, and physician assistants. The project features state-of-the-art medical academic labs, classrooms, and advanced distance learning technology. The University of Alaska Anchorage intended the Health Sciences Building to stand out on its campus to establish the evolving presence of the College of Health while complementing the previously existing architecture. The exterior composed of metal panels, stone, and glass was chosen in response to Alaska’s cold climate. The windows of various sizes capture natural light in program spaces. In 2017, a pedestrian bridge over Providence Dr. was completed that connects the facility to the new Engineering and Industry Building (all designed by Livingston Slone). The pre-design master plan included future College of Health facilities, a parking garage, and a pedestrian bridge connection to Providence Hospital.
