Sand Lake Elementary School Renewal

Summary

Nvision provided planning, design, and construction administration services for a major renovation and addition to Sand Lake Elementary School, including a new library and multi-purpose room. The new library was a focal point of the project, in part because it would be located near the front entry of the building. The volume and placement of the windows create a distinct identity from the exterior. Additions included a computer technology lab, library office, and audio/visual storage. The new school now meets (and potentially exceeds) current Anchorage School District education specifications and programmatically contains a gymnasium, multi-purpose room with stage, library, computer lab, art room, music room, speech room, 24 classrooms, two resource rooms, and a front office that is centrally located and allows for improved visibility, supervision/security, and interaction with the community. Overall, the design is energetic and playful, and it has helped re-establish Sand Lake as a welcoming, active school within this important Anchorage community. The renewal provided a school for students, teachers, administrators, staff, and parents to be proud to call their own.
