Drug Enforcement Agency Office Building

Drug Enforcement Agency Office Building

Summary

Nvision served as designer on this competitively bid Design/Build project for the new DEA headquarters. Nvision provided design services beginning with the analysis of two different sites. The program included 15,000 SF of leasable office area and 27 heated/enclosed parking spaces. A high-security office space was located on the second floor, and security-related site set-backs were 100’ from all access, public parking, and other structures. The challenges of the design involved a site analysis that led to a building site set on Little Campbell Creek, which required an environmentally sensitive solution to minimize negative impacts to existing wetlands. This, along with the security concerns, demanded a building that is efficiently designed to fit the site in two stories. With special conditions and security requirements, core planning and circulatory requirements were a uniting factor for the design. Restrooms, men’s and women’s locker rooms, secure storage, file rooms, drug storage, test labs, weapons storage, and communication rooms were all designed as part of the circulation core.
