AVTEC Alaska Culinary Academy
Summary
Nvision provided planning, design, and construction administration services for an extensive renovation and addition of the Alaska Culinary Academy at AVTEC – Alaska's Institute of Technology. The project involved renovation of 11,000 SF of existing space, including the existing kitchen, cafeteria, and classrooms, as well as a 13,000 SF addition to the teaching kitchen areas. This project involved many unique program challenges, including the design of an educational classroom that also provides the public with a fine dining experience equal to that of a commercially viable restaurant. Nvision produced additive design alternates worth $2M in the hopes that final bidding of subcontracts would be favorable in a faltering economy. This allowed the State of Alaska to achieve the best possible final product for the allowable budget. The result was an extremely efficient design that more than satisfied all program requirements and maximized the project budget.
